The purpose of this lab was to determine if various substances contained macromolecules, specifically; carbohydrates, proteins, or vitamin C. The tests used were the Biuret test, the xanthoproteic test, the Benedict’s test, the starch test, and the indophenol test. Many of the substances were positive for that which they were being tested, proving the hypothesis partially correct. INTRODUCTIONThis lab was conducted to determine if various substances contained various macromolecules. The macromolecules tested for were carbohydrates, proteins, and vitamin C. The substances tested were glucose, fructose, sucrose, maltose, milk, corn syrup, starch, glycogen, gelatin, egg albumin, ascorbic acid, apple juice, orange juice, and fruit punch.

A color changed indicated a positive result. The results from the first two tests were then recorded in a table. (Malyk, 2007b)Tests for protein were conducted next, and the substances used were egg albumin, gelatin, and milk. These substances were tested using the Biuret test and the xanthoproteic test. The Biuret test was conducted by added 2 mL of each solution to a test tube, along with a distilled water control.

These known solutions contained different types of macromolecules. .. Macromolecules can be divided into four classes; carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids and proteins.
DNA stores the genetic code so it does not travel and therefore can be safe in the nucleus. Uses of Macromolecules .
Macromolecules are made up of large and complex organic molecules. In this investigation, we will identify different macromolecules and their properties.
Macromolecules: Giant Polymers. To identify the presence of these macromolecules in a substance, three different tests were performed.
The results are as follows: . As conclusion, the several tests used to determine carbohydrates, fats and proteins are learned. There are some error during the experiment, thus more precaution should be taken. The objective had achieved.
Each of these macromolecules are tested differently. : n.p., n.d. Print.
The Iodine test was not however placed in the water-bath. For the Biuret test, solutions that were tested for include 2mL of each: egg albumin, honey, amino acid solution, distilled water, and protein solution.
(2011, July 01). The high level of this toxic compound would cause harm to the kidneys, the liver and other body cells.
No mistakes were perfomed throughout the carrying out of this laboratory activity, no flaws were observed nor no extra needs are to be added and therefore the lack of errors does not allow for any improvements whatsoever. Althought for further testing and expansion of knowledgeable capabilities, the tests can be performed on simple raw foods such as...
Mian function of proteins: . (c) Polysaccharides are macromolecules, meaning they are very large molecules (made up of many many small monosaccharide molecules joined together in straight or branched chains).
