It is a well-known fact that different populations have their specific culture. There are even groups of people, called ethnic, race, or tribe, within a population having their own culture with specific themes and myths. For example, in the American population, the culture of the Blacks may be different from the culture of the Caucasians; and the culture of the American Roman Catholic may be different from that of the American Jews. Defining culture, it the totality of socially transmitted behavior patterns, arts, beliefs, institutions, and all other product of human works; these patterns, traits and products are considered as the expression of particular period, community, or population with respect to a particular category, field, subject or mode or expression (Random House, College Dictionary on Munger, 4). In other words, culture is “the set of inherited beliefs, attitudes, and moral strictures that a people use to distinguish outsiders, to understand themselves and to communicate with each other”, (Munger, 5). When cultural differences are studied, there must be specific field to be stated. There are cultural differences among religions (e.g. Islamic culture vs. Jewish culture), among nations (e.g.

The Western culture is highly characterized by its focus on science and technology, thus industrialization began in the region and has made most of the European countries become industrialized and developed resulting to the Western culture being tagged as the modern culture. Moreover, there is also the eastern culture which is commonly known as the Asian culture. Contrary to the modernity of the Western culture, the Eastern culture is a composition of traditional cultures including those of the Chinese, Korean, Indian, Japanese, Arabic, Filipino culture and others. Across Asia, there are various tribes and ethnic groups that have made the eastern culture very traditional. Before the Western colonizers brought Christianity, the prevailing religion in the continent were paganism, Confucianism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, and Islam. One of the richest cultures not only in Asia but also in the whole world is that of the Chinese. Up to this day, Chinese people believe in and practice traditional culture such as karma, yin yang, herbal medicine and acupuncture which is also being practiced in Western countries nowadays. Asian cuisine is also very distinguishable with western cuisine. Rice is an essential food among Asians which is commonly steamed or made as congee unlike in Western countries that primarily eat meat.
